About Code Platoon

Code Platoon is a nonprofit coding bootcamp that prepares Veterans, active-duty Servicemembers, military spouses, and adult military children for careers in software development and cloud engineering. Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of graduates launch meaningful careers in tech.

The Role

Code Platoon is seeking a Fullstack Software Engineering Instructor to lead our Immersive program and support students as they move from beginners to job-ready developers. You’ll bring real-world engineering experience into the classroom, helping students build strong technical foundations, professional habits, and confidence in their ability to succeed in tech.

You’ll guide hands-on, production-focused learning in a collaborative environment, modeling best practices in software design, problem-solving, and teamwork. The classroom experience is intentionally built for Veterans, Servicemembers, and military spouses transitioning into software engineering careers.

Students gain practical experience building, deploying, and maintaining applications using React, Django, PostgreSQL, Docker, and AWS, preparing them for junior engineering roles.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead hands-on learning through live lectures, labs, and code-along sessions that help students build practical fullstack engineering skills.
  • Guide students through real-world projects, coaching individuals and teams as they plan, build, and ship software.
  • Review code and give clear, timely feedback that strengthens technical skills, problem-solving, and engineering judgment.
  • Support students through challenges, helping them debug issues, make sound architecture decisions, and apply industry best practices.
  • Collaborate on curriculum improvement, working with instructors and staff to keep content relevant, modern, and effective.
  • Model professional engineering habits, including strong communication, teamwork, and accountability, while fostering an inclusive, respectful learning environment for Veterans, Servicemembers, and military spouses.

  • Ability to lead clear, engaging technical instruction, including live lectures lasting two to four hours.
  • Experience reviewing code and delivering constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Experience mentoring, teaching, or supporting developers or students at varying skill levels.
  • Ability to track student technical progress and adjust support as needed.
  • Comfort explaining complex concepts to beginners without oversimplifying.
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation, assignments, and curriculum content.
  • A collaborative, mission-focused mindset and commitment to supporting Veterans, Servicemembers, and military spouses as they transition into tech.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior teaching, mentoring, or coding bootcamp instructional experience.
  • Industry experience building and shipping production applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, scalability, and production reliability concepts.
  • A demonstrated passion for education and helping new developers launch technical careers.
  • A strong connection to the military community, including Veterans, military spouses, or adult dependents.
