Introducing AI + Fullstack Engineering: The Next Evolution of Code Platoon’s Flagship Program

For nearly a decade, Code Platoon’s Immersive Fullstack Software Engineering program has been the foundation of our mission: helping military-connected learners launch meaningful tech careers.

But software engineering doesn’t stand still. And neither do we.

Today, we’re excited to share the next evolution of our flagship program: AI + Fullstack Engineering.

This updated name reflects more than a rebrand—it signals how the role of a modern software engineer has changed. While the fundamentals of Fullstack development remain critical, employers are increasingly looking for engineers who understand how artificial intelligence fits into real-world products, workflows, and systems.

Over the past three years, Code Platoon has steadily integrated responsible AI usage into our curriculum, teaching students how to leverage AI tools to become more effective developers. With AI + Fullstack Engineering, we’ve taken the next step. This program goes beyond learning with AI tools to learning how to build with them.

Our instructional team, guided by continuous employer feedback and the expertise of our Curriculum Advisory Board—which includes engineering leaders from companies like Airbnb, Ninety, and Phrase Health—has rebuilt the curriculum to reflect what early-career engineers actually need in today’s workplace.

Students in the AI + Fullstack Engineering program will now learn how to:

  • Integrate generative AI into front-end and back-end web applications
  • Use APIs and AI libraries to build features like intelligent search and chatbots
  • Prepare and analyze data to support AI-powered functionality
  • Design, test, and refine prompts and AI workflows
  • Build responsibly using human-centered and ethical AI principles

This means graduates aren’t just prompting tools like ChatGPT—they’re designing and deploying intelligent features as part of full applications, whether they’re working on the front end, back end, or both.

The demand is clear. AI-related job listings have increased by 42% year over year, and 72% of employers say AI skills are important in junior tech hires. Employers aren’t looking for specialists alone—they’re looking for adaptable engineers who understand how AI fits into modern software development.

AI + Fullstack Engineering prepares our students to meet that moment—rooted in the same mission, rigor, and community that have defined Code Platoon for ten years, and ready for what’s next.
